At the beginning of the 1960s, the large Roman baths opposite the Handelsagora in front of the theatre were restored and converted into an archaeological museum. The complex, dating from the 5th - 6th centuries A.D., has a floor area of 55 x 40 metres and was thus the largest of the four Sides baths.

The establishment of a museum became necessary after the number of artefacts, which increased during the beginning excavations in Side in the years since 1947. With the advent of tourism in Side in the 1970s, the interest of domestic and foreign visitors in the archaeological finds increased.

The five main rooms, an apodyterium (changing room), a caldarium (hot bath), a tepidarium (room with mild heat), a frigidarium (cold bath), a sudatorium (sweat bath) and some secondary rooms can still be seen today.
The thermal baths had a garden for mental diversion, which is now used as a museum garden. On display are exhibits from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.
